Paneer Capsicum
This paneer dish has always been a great hit at home... My friends & family think that it better than the paneer you get in the restaurants... It is simple and easy... Try it!!!
Preparation time - 10 mins
Cooking time - 20 mins
Serves - 3 to 5 people (depends on the serving size)
INGREDIENTS
- Capsicum - small slices - 250 gms
- Paneer - cubed - 250 gms
- Onions - grated - 2
- Tomato - pureed - 3
- Cumin seeds (jeera) - 1 tsp
- Turmeric pwd (haldi) - 1 tsp
- Garam Masala - 1 tsp
- Red Chilly Pwd - 2 tsp
- Coriander pwd - 2 tsp
- Ginger paste (or finely chopped) - half tsp
- Garlic paste (or finely chopped) - half tsp
- Milk - 1 cup
- thickened Cream - half cup (optional... but it gives a very rich flavour to the curry)
- Oil - 2 tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Coriander leaves - chopped - for garnish
METHOD
- Heat oil in a pan and add the cumin seeds after it sputters add the ginger, garlic and onion and saute till onion is slightly brown
- The add the sliced capsicum and saute for 2 mins
- Then add the dry powders and mix well
- After the powders are mixed well add the tomato puree and salt and cook till the raw smell and taste of tomato disappears
- now add the paneer cubes and mix well so that the mixture coats all the paneer cubes. Place a lid on the pan & let it cook for 2 - 5 mins.
- Now add the milk and cream into the mixture. Keep 2 tsps of cream aside for garnish.
- When this mixture starts to boil you can take it off the heat and garnish with coriander leaves and cream.
- Serve hot with chapatis
TIPS:
- If you are using frozen paneer then place the cubes in a bowl of boiling water for 5 - 10 mins. Drain the water & before you use the paneer.
- You could add some peas to this curry while cooking
- If you are health conscious then use skimmed milk and light cream... comes out equally good.
