Nut Butter
Nut butters are in lime light these days. There are so many options when it comes to nut butters. Initially you would find only peanut butters but now there is a variety. Almond butter is one of my favourites and tastes amazing. You can use other nuts and seeds. Have a look at the variations.
- 200g raw almonds
METHOD
- Place the almonds in the mixer / grinder.
- The nut butter happens in stages. First the nut turns to a powder; then slowly you will see the oil releasing from the nut and it becomes into a dough and further grinding makes it smooth and buttery.
- Do not keep grinding for minutes on end. Stop spoon in, and grind. You will have to keep spooning in the nut from the walls of the grinder.
- It take a little patience to get the consistency right. It can take anywhere from 10 – 15 minutes of grinding
- And let the butter cool a little before you put your finger in because it turns hot when you grind it for this long
- You can use different nuts and seeds to make your own butters using the same method. Sunflower seeds, cashews, almonds, macadamia nuts etc.
- Some are better after slow roasting the nuts, like peanut butter or almond butter, or even sesame and sunflower butters.
- If you want to add flavour you can by using any of the options: cocoa / cacao powder, honey, maple syrup, cinnamon, etc. or get creative and try something of your own.
Comments
I added a bit of maple syrup while grinding. Added a sweet note.
