Gourmet Veggie Burger Patty
I have always been fascinated with gourmet burgers especially the ones that you get in posh cafes. I wanted to try my hand at making one such burger patty.
Like a lot of my kitchen experiments this one also started off with a few veggies in my crisper and few other ingredients in my fridge. After a lot of thought decided to try my hand at making a burger.
After the first successful round I tried it again with an intention of making a burger patty this time and it was equally successful.
The patty is vegan, gluten free and freaking easy to make.
So here's the recipe for you to try.
INGREDIENTS
- Medium sized cooked potatoes - 3
- Medium sized cooked Sweet potato - 1
- Cooked Carrot - 2
- Cooked Peas - 1 cup
- Cooked Corn - 1/2 cup
- Chopped Mushrooms - 1 cup
- Cooked Quinoa - 1 cup ( you can replace with brown rice or mixed grains or no grains)
- Cooked mixed beans - 1 and 1/2 cups (I used a combination of black beans, red kidney beans and pinto beans, you can use 2 cans of any beans / lentils)
- Chickpeas flour / Besan - as per need
- Garlic powder - 1 tbsp
- Dried onion - 2 tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Chilly powder - 1 tsp (I did not add this but you can add other flavours to suit your taste)
- Gluten free bread crumbs (you can use the regular bread crumbs too)
- Little oil to bake the patties
METHOD
- I got about 20 patties from this. You could reduce or increase the amount of veggies and other ingredients as per your need.
- Pressure cook all the veggies with very little water.
- Make sure you have drained out all the water from the veggies and grains and beans. I did not squeeze the water out but just left it in the colander for a bit to drain the excess water.
- Put everything except bread crumbs and oil in a big bowl and mix well.
- Taste the mix to adjust the flavours
- Add more chickpea flour if the mix is too wet.
- Make sure it all combines well.
- I am using gluten free bread crumbs from Aldi because I feel it gives a better crunch. You are free to use the regular bread crumbs.
- Keep water in a bowl to dip you hands between two patties. The mix will not stick to wet hands.
- Take generous portion of the mix and pat it into the size of your preference. Dip this in bread crumbs.
- If you are cooking many at the same time then use the oven if not use the air frier. If you have made more then just put in between some baking paper and freeze it for the day you don't feel like cooking)
- Drizzle about a 1/2 tsp of oil or spray oil on each side of the patty before you put it for baking.
- Bake it till it turns golden brown. Longer of you want to make it crispy.
- You could also shallow fry it in a pan.
- Make smaller portions and use it like a snack or to make mini burgers.
- Assemble a burger with leaves, tomatoes, onions, cheese, mayo and or sauces of your choice with the pattie.
